1980

In 1980 the Vick Report, examining UT Austin’s General Education requirements, is released. Student writing and writing instruction receive significant attention in the report. The English Department convenes the English Composition Study Group to investigate curriculum, staffing, and administrative issues throughout the department, and the various sub-committees of the study group deliver detailed reports on their areas of focus. The English Department is responding to the Vick Report, and also extending an effort that began in 1978 in response to other faculty across the university who have begun to weigh in on the writing curriculum. The English Department attempts to update its curriculum before having changes dictated to it by the college or university. Moldenhauer convenes the committee that begins developing E 346K.
