The Daily Texan begins to cover controversies and developments related to the lower-division English curriculum in detail, frequently quoting English faculty with opposing views on curricular and administrative matters. The College of Liberal Arts proposes changes to the general education English requirements, most significantly introducing E 346K as one of the three required courses in the 9 hour block of English classes. Grade inflation continues to be a topic of discussion in the English Department. University Council supports the general education changes previously passed by the College of Liberal Arts. Development of the E 346K courses intensifies. Staffing issues continue to present difficulties, while the writing lab quietly expands and develops its infrastructure and budgeting.
