The E 306 curriculum remains based on the Kinneavy syllabus but is updated with changes proposed by John Ruszkiewicz and Mary Trachsel. The university convenes a writing assessment committee. The Daily Texan covers English Department discord over the newly approved English plan, and James Sledd formally proposes an alternate plan. The English Department develops a “lecturer plan” but it is controversial from the outset. Sue Rodi proposes an alternate “lecturer plan” to that developed by Wayne Lesser’s committee. Ruszkiewicz also develops his own “lecturer plan.” The Writing Lab continues to see greater traffic and increases its budget and its offerings. The English Department develops a version of E 306 intended to help retain “Mexican American” students. The year is dominated by implementation of the new curriculum and labor issues surrounding the lecturers.
