Linda Brodkey is hired with tenure after working at the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education. Wayne Rebhorn, a literature specialist with expertise in the Renaissance, directs the writing program, and Linda Brodkey is hired as the associate director. Brodkey and others begin to make changes to the E 306 syllabus, though maintaining the basic goals and structure of the 1987 syllabus. The Freshman English Policy Committee is combined with the Sophomore English Pollicy Committee, forming the Lower-Division English Policy Committee (LDEPC), which oversees literature courses, such as E 316 and E 309K as well as writing courses, such as E 306 and E 309L. E 306 continues to be offered, despite departmental efforts to stop offering the class by the fall of 1988. Over-enrollment and budget cuts trouble the English Department’s effort to offer more sections of E 309.
