In 1987, though the writing program was directed by literature faculty, a version of the Kinneavy syllabus was still taught in E 306. While the English Department paid increasingly less attention to its writing courses, the University Council issued an other report on the Basic Education Requirements, focusing on the substantial writing component (SWC) initiative.
