In the spring, Interim Dean Robert King appoints Lester Faigley Director and John Ruszkiewicz Assistant Director of the Division of Rhetoric and Composition. The English Department Committee finalizes its report on what the DRC should accomplish, how it should be governed, and what connections it should maintain with the English Department. The E 306 controversy continues in the press and in the personal lives of its main participants, such as Linda Brodkey, John Ruszkiewicz, Maxine Hairston, and Alan Gribben, but not among the faculty or administrators at UT. In the fall, the DRC officially opens its doors, offering E 306, E 309, E 310, and E 325M.
